Properly counseling employees is a critical part of management’s job. Below are essential elements for a productive counseling session:
- Counseling sessions should always occur privately
 - When meeting with the employee, make sure you state the problem objectively
 - Take the time to listen to the employee’s statements and concerns
 - Be clear to lay out the policies, rules and expectations
