Tip Tuesday: How to Help Get a Tentative Agreement Ratified
July 27, 2021

In this age of social media, employees often make known their feelings towards tentative agreements. The information posted can be misleading, deceiving, or just plain wrong.  Here are some things companies can do to maximize the likelihood of getting a tentative agreement ratified:

  • Manage employee expectations from the beginning of negotiations. Employees need to know what type of agreement is affordable and will allow the company to prosper.
  • Set up an official, company website where information about negotiations, the state of the industry, communications, and other pertinent information can be posted and updated.
  • Increase the use of company social media to offset employees who post unfounded statements or allegations.
  • Make certain that when you reach a tentative agreement, the union leadership and union negotiating committee will endorse the agreement and actively try to get it ratified.
